Yes. Every vehicle registered in Maine must pass a Safety Inspection annually. If you are moving to Cumberland County, your vehicle must also pass an enhanced emissions test. Once your car is offloaded from our carrier, you have a short grace period to get your car to a licensed inspection station (usually any local garage with the "Official Inspection Station" sign).

While we offer door-to-door service, shipping to regions north of Bangor (like Presque Isle) or "Down East" (like Machias) is more expensive and takes longer. Because these areas are far from the I-95 corridor, carriers often have to "deadhead" (drive empty) back to major hubs. To save money, many customers choose to meet their driver in Bangor or Augusta.

If you are buying a car out of state and shipping it to Maine, or if your registration expires during the move, you can apply for a $35 Transit Plate from the Maine BMV. This is a 10-day temporary permit that allows you to drive the car from the delivery point to your home or an inspection station legally.

In the spring (late March to May), many secondary roads in Maine have "Heavy Load" weight posters to prevent road damage during the thaw. If you live on a posted road, a large car carrier literally cannot legally drive to your door. Your driver will coordinate a meeting at the nearest paved, non-posted parking lot, such as a local Hannaford or Shaw's.

Absolutely! We frequently ship vehicles for students and faculty at UMaine Orono. Because campus roads can be tight, we typically arrange delivery at a large peripheral lot, such as near the Alfond Arena, to ensure the driver has enough room to safely unload.

If you are a new resident and have already registered and used your car in another state for at least 6 months, you are generally exempt from Maine’s 5.5% Use Tax. If you have owned the car for less than 6 months, you may have to pay the difference between your previous state's tax and Maine's 5.5% rate.
